Bio
Hector Fonseca connects with the crowd instinctively.
His unique fusion of funky rhythm, tribal sexiness and electronic
edge attests that freshness of creative expression that never tires
on the dance floor. Keeping his finger on the beating and sometimes
erratic pulse of nightlife, he selectively puts out remixes under
the watchful eyes of his mentors, while artfully turning it out
with sets that tell stories full of whit and urbane chic. Slowly
and strategically, he's stepping out from the shadows, masterfully
landing in the limelight of a new era in NYC's fluid underworld.
IN THE BEGINNING...Fonseca roots
only minutes from the outrageous nightlife scene Manhattan revolved
around during the late 80s. At a time where creative freedom roamed
as freely as club kids partying in subway stations, Fonseca watched
from the sidelines, utilizing his observations by taking control
of the musical reigns at every backyard party he went to. While
sharpening his ear for the sound and toning his ability to blend
beats, Fonseca idolized founding club legends David Morales, Frankie
Knuckles and Danny Tenaglia for their innovative approach to a relatively
unexplored genre of music. His first tape, which he mixed to ease
his bored ears during long days at work as a model, ended up in
the hands of legendary Tunnel promoter Mark Berkley. Hence began
his quest to conquer the dance floor; hooked on dance music, he
connected with the influential clique that reigned NYC nights, Fonseca
passed the velvet rope from day to nightlife, never thinking twice
to look back.
HIS REACH...Word of the talented
DJ spread quickly. Soon, he could boast of residencies at most of
NYC's legendary nightclubs, along with numerous national spots.
With a list of performances that read like a who's who of NYC clubs,
he attracted the attention of his mentor, Grammy Award-winning DJ/Producer/Remixer
Peter Rauhofer. The owner of the highly successful underground dance
track label Star69 Records. Rauhofer wanted to test if Fonseca's
musical means extended beyond the turntables. The results: Numerous
heavily played, high charting re-mixes followed for artists including
Beyonce, Missy Elliot and Kelis.
In Summer of 2004, with just two years of producing
music under his belt, Fonseca solidified his spot in dance music's
Hall of Fame with his rendition of Jahkey B's "Heartattack"
featuring Satta. Undeniably turning the underground track into a
classic peak hour anthem, Fonseca pushed the song to number 8 on
Billboard's Dance chart. His followup, Shelia Brody's "U Ain't
that Good" soared past 8 to number 3, further impressing both
his supporters as well as his critics. Numerous chart topping mixes
have followed since.
Most recently, the musical Midas followed the
path paved by Junior Vasquez and Peter Rauhofer by lending his golden
touch to the runways for NYC's bi-annual fashion week. Victor Alfaro,
Sarah James, Cynthia Rowley, Jill Stuart, Armani Exchange - onlookers
couldn't help but bounce to his eclectic set as the models strut
their stuff.
In 2007 Hector furthered his reach by being name
"Hottest DJ" by Out Magazine and headlining numerous high
profile events such as Carnival in Rio and various Pride celebrations
around the world where thousands showed up and danced all night
to his well received dj sets.
In addition to this, he also released his first
mixed compilation "NY Club Anthems Vol. 2" on Star 69
records to rave reviews both by his peers and consumers. He launched
a subsequent tour for the CD titled "NY Anthems Tour"
which has made stops in cities like Toronto, Sao Paulo, Mexico City
and Miami just to name a few.
THE FUTURE..."It's
about pleasing the crowd while, at the same time, giving them something
unique they can't find somewhere else. Nothing is more satisfying
than giving it to a crowd and getting it right back; that's what
I strive for." It's with this passion that Fonseca will continue
to DJ, remix and produce music. Whatever the crowd and whether in
a small trendy lounge or one of Manhattan's megaclubs - Fonseca
raises the bar, keeping his competitors on their toes with his unprecedented
vision and cutting edge sound. In a time when uncertainty plagues
the nightlife industry, trends are changing and people are waiting
to see where each intricate part will eventually find its home;
as the dust settles, Hector Fonseca emerges as the man to watch.
